Ask a Woodworker
I was just wondering out of all the wood in the world, which type would you suggest as the most expensive to buy?
In our opinion, the most expensive (and legally obtainable) wood comes from a batch of Curly (Fiddleback) Maple (Acer Saccharum) from the North Country. This is virgin timber,
from Canadian forests, was originally harvested nearly two centuries ago. It was lost in Lake Superior (and other northern waters) when logging ships sunk during storms. Now it is being recovered by specialized salvage companies having been perfectly preserved in the
icy depths.
