Sander Sitter – Palm Sander Landing Pad

Having someplace to put your random orbital sander after shutting it off, but before it stops spinning is more than just convenient. Letting the tool wind down and stop in one place is also a safety issue. Baxter Creek Tools Co. has just such a gadget – the Sander Sitter.

The benefits of such a device are obvious to anyone who routinely uses a Random Orbital Palm Disc Sander (ROS):

  1. Faster working time by not having to turn the sander off and on every time you sit it down.

  2. Gives a safe resting place for your sander, and prevents it from being damaged by falling onto the floor during "wind down" time.

What is not so obvious, is that this device actually pays for itself several times over because the Sander Sitter's natural crepe rubber cleaning pad removes about 75% of the debris from the sanding paper disc providing at least 4 to 5 times longer sanding disc life. It also elminiates the damage the excess paper (outside the edges of the sander's disk pad) can to your work. Sander Sitter automatically rolls the sandpaper's edges upwards out of the way – enabling properly work the edges and any cut out areas on your project.

Originally designed for 5" Random Orbital Disc Palm Sanders(ROS), Baxter is now manufacturing a model built all 6" Random Orbital Disc sanders, whether electric or pneumatic D/A. They've even included is a custom support arm which allows the Sander Sitter 6" HD to accommodate right angle or barrel grip sanders. D/A and D-handle models do not require the use of the support arm. The new Sander Sitter 6" HD features all of the benefits of the original 5" Sander Sitter. This will primarily benefit commercial woodworking, fiberglass, and solid surface operations.

Because not all sanders rotate at the same speed, Baxter has provided the Sander Sitter with a Spin Control Adjustment and that can be easlily adjusted using 1/8" allen key.

Setting up the device for first use is pretty straight-forward. You spinkle some sanding dust on the crepe rubber cleaning pad to eliminate the sticky texture of the new cleaning pad. The sander has to slide on the pad in order to operate smoothly. Read the directions that come with it – a few cautionary notes and tips to get the most of Sanding Sitter. Place it in convient location to your sanding work (a clean, solid and level work surface).

According to the manufacturer, the crepe rubber cleaning pad does not wear thin or crumble away and will probably last forever. The Sander Sitter is relatively maintenance free. If the bearing slows down it can be cleaned with compressed air, by blowing any excess dust out from around it and you need only maintain the crepe cleaning pad by washing it with cold water and soap, and letting it air dry.

This is a must have for any shop. Sanding Sitter is available at Rockler, Eagle America, Amazon and other major online retailers.
