Freud® 10" x 40T Hi ATB General Purpose Blade

We ask a lot of our saws: Rip and crosscut hardwoods, softwoods, MDF, laminates, veneers, plywood, and sometimes non-ferrous metals and plastic.

FreudŽ 10'' x 40T Hi ATB Premier Fusion General Purpose Blade In order to get the job done right, we have to choose the right blade for the job. There are hundreds of blades on the market and picking the right ones for your particular needs can be confusing.

If you saw a lot of hardwoods you probably have a trusty 24-tooth rip blade that you use for making rough cuts. For cross cutting a 40 or 50 tooth blade, and 80 tooth that ends up getting swapped between the chop saw (or radial arm) and your table saw.

A few months back, when all my blades seem to go dull at once and had pretty much used up their "extra lives" with the sharp shop, I had to break down and spend some money. Since for 90% of table saw chores, a good quality "all purpose" or combination blade will do the trick, that was priority one. I used to buy what was on sale, but ended up spending time (=money) cleaning up the work. What I didn't spend on blade I was spending on other stuff like sandpaper. I now make a point to INVEST in blades. My budget has been between $75 and $110. It was a toss-up between replacing my current blade or trying out one of the new Perma-shield blades from Freud – I opted for the Freud® 10" x 40T Hi ATB Premier Fusion General Purpose Blade ($99).

Those squiggle marks are not artwork – they are a combination of a unique design element and a special polymer filler that reduces vibration in the blade.

This is a great blade!

Out performs any all-purpose and most specialty blades that I have used before. Super quiet. Vibration-free. It cuts 6/4 stock like butter and slices through plywood. No saw (swirl) marks, chips, fuzz or tear-out (top or bottom). Flawless melamine and veneer cuts (top and bottom). Perfect glue joints everytime. My jointer is collecting dust as well as my finish and plywood blades. I was so impressed that I purchased another blade just so wouldn't have to swap out between saws.
